What is it, and how did you get the center of the leaf to glow so beautifully while the rest of the picture is dark?

That is the leaf of Calathea insignis. I just waited for the right evening light to shine on the leaf to show off its natural colors to best advantage. Then I cropped and used the auto enhance feature in my Kodak program.

Sometimes I like the auto enhancement and sometimes I don't. The light quality when taking the picture is a huge determining factor in how things come out.
