Sunday Morning Meditation

A weekly reminder of the here and now and the place where I actually live. This is my Sunday morning view. Before I wander off into the ethereal and the attempted application of my version of justice in a complex and messy world it is good to be reminded of my speckness, just another speck of dust in the wind.

Others choose different meditations and a row of paddlers should be visible in the water by clicking the picture for a larger view. Even a surfer dude or two waits for the next rhythmic earth pulse.

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind
Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind
Kansas

Capturing the breath of the planet, Maui's new windmills are at the top of the ridge to the left of the clouds. To the naked eye the towering white windmills are a dramatic sculpture. Like the long line of red canoes near shore in the blue ocean they stand out boldly. My camera does not capture that strength, but you should be able to see them in the larger picture.

I tilt my mind in all directions to get the most from these windmills. I like to think they were placed there just for me. I need to be reminded of just how quixotic I can be.

Thanks for sharing the view -- I've just got to see it in real life some day...

At first I used to be so envious that you lived in Maui, but now I'm glad for you that you are so blessed. I came to appreciate that you offered a window into that world for those of us who may never get to be there.

Dust in the wind... Even all these years since that song first came out, it still touches me deeply whenever I hear it.

And just so you know, your quixotic side is very charming.

Now I'm jealous again... I just checked your Maui weather (at around 6:55pm your time) -- it says the temperature there is 81 degrees and the dew point is 68 degrees... At around 6pm today, we hit temperatures into the mid 90's, and the dew point here even now after midnight is still 72 degrees -- down from the high 70's earlier this evening (tropical jungle humidity). It was so hot and humid in the warehouse today, that the sweat beading from my forehead kept dripping into my eyes and making them burn. I had to keep rinsing them out with cold water.

It's going to be at least as bad tomorrow. I worry a lot about my brother -- working so hard outside in that weather.

BTW, I decided to switch over to the same internet weather service for my local weather link that you use for yours.
